KRISTIN
TAYLOR
Driver
arrested
Woman dies in car crash
Kristin "Kristy" Dawn Taylor, 24, of Campbell Drive died last
Thursday night from injuries suffered in a one-car accident on Cornishville
Road, and the driver of the car, Timothy Jones, 26, of 429 Raven St. has been
arrested and sentenced after allegedly fleeing the scene.
Mercer County Deputy Coroner Scott Moseley said Taylor
died instantly from blunt force trauma to her torso.
He said
the car appeared to have gone off the side of he road, was over corrected and
then crashed on the opposite shoulder of the road.
A
reconstruction of the scene was performed Tuesday by retired University of
Kentucky Professor and Engineer Dr. John Hutchinson. He concluded that “a road
width inconsistency, with road edge corrugations, put the westbound vehicle off
the right side of the road (see vehicle undercarriage scrapes on road edge)
into a culvert end of an uphill driveway which provided superelevated left
directional force on the vehicle, sending it back on to and across the road to
a fatal wooden spear fence impact.
Taylor is
survived by her parents, Michael Edward Taylor and Lynne and Leo Vaughn Jr., a
son, Kamren Jones; a daughter, Kaylei Jones and other relatives.
When
authorities arrived at the scene Thursday, witnesses reported a man running
into a field on Cornishville Road after the accident, Moseley said.
Jones was
located at a later time and charged with fleeing and evading police on foot as
well as previous charges for failure to appear in court. He was lodged in the
Boyle County Detention Center.
He pled
guilty to the fleeing and evading and one failure to appear charge in Mercer
County District Court Monday.
He was
sentenced to 365 days in jail on the feeing and evading charge, 251 days on a
contempt of court charge and 182 days on a failure to appear charge. The
sentences will be served concurrently for a total of 365 days.
The
investigation is ongoing and other possible charges are pending completion of
the investigation. Lead investigating troopers are Michael Keeton and Frank
Thornberry, Post 7, Richmond.
