More and more, funeral homes out of town are less and less sending obituary information to the local papers, hence… more obits include a note at the bottom that the obit was not included in the issue of the Herald. These obits were taken from other area newspapers and area funeral homes.


DELBERT BALL

Ernest Delbert Ball, 79, of  Burgin, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at the UK Medical Center.

Born Jan. 7, 1928 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Ben and Agnes Buckley Ball and was the husband of Edna Mae Hager Ball.  

He was a retired system supervisor for Kentucky Utilities and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church. Delbert was also a member of the Burgin Lions Club, the Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 F&AM and the Oleika Shrine Temple.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Deborah (David) Lester; one sister, Thelma Bowden of Fairhope, AL; two grandchildren, David Lester Jr. and Dena Lester of Weston, FL and one niece. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Ball and a sister, Dorothy Kimball.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Harvey Britton officiating. Burial will be in the Burgin Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers are Bill Price, Roy Lee Sanders, Mark Bradshaw, Charles Goodlett, Bob VanArsdall, Fred VanArsdall, G. T. Shannon and Eddie Russell. 

Honorary Bearers are: Bobby Royalty, Bobby R. Campbell, Horace Lester, John David Lane, John D. Brown, Joe Green, Virgil Green, William Hayslett and David Sims.

Visitation Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 5- 8 p.m. and Thursday prior to Service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiners’ Children’s Hospital or the Parkinson Foundation.

CARL BARTLESON

Carl Wayne Bartleson, 57, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday Dec. 29, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 17, 1950, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Fannie Lou Bartleson and was the husband of Annette Bartleson.

He was a member of Centennial Baptist Church and was employed by Bay West.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Chasity Young and Shyanna Bartleson, both of Harrodsburg; three sons, Carl, Daniel and Chad Bartleson, all of Danville; one brother, Larry Bartleson of Harrodsburg and two grandchildren.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Centennial Baptist Church. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

FRAN BOTNER

Frances “Fran” Botner, 83,  died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor after an extended illness. 

Born April 4, 1924 in Shady Grove, TN, she was the daughter of the late Sam Henry and Dora Ethel Ardry George and was the widow of Stanley A. Botner. 

She was former co-owner of Botner Drug Store in Harrodsburg, a clerk and reservationist at Shakertown for 19 years, a member of the Harrodsburg Women’s Club, Mercer Bowling League, 4-H Club Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Stanley Arthur Botner II of Harrodsburg and Gregory George Botner of Danville; two daughters, Deborah Botner Sims of Orlando, FL and Lisa Botner Goodrich of Harrodsburg; one sister, Libby Copley of Columbia, TN and six grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Mervin George and one great-grandchild, Silas Botner.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2007 in the Springhill Cemetery with Father John Hall, Rector of the St. Philips Episcopal Church, officiating. 

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 5, 2007 from 5 until 8 pm at the Parks Funeral Home.

JUSTIN BRADSHAW

Justin Andrew Bradshaw, 24, of Brodhead, died Sunday, December 30, 2007.

He was born May 5, 1983 in Danville, the son of James Thomas Bradshaw and Jeleta Kay Taylor Bradshaw.

He was a member of Brodhead Christian Church and a member of the Rockcastle Saddle Club. He worked as a stone mason, and his hobbies and interests were horses, trail riding, fishing and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: two daughters, Abigail Tessa Bradshaw and Alivia Morgan Bradshaw, both of Brodhead; maternal grandparents, Bobby and June Taylor of Brodhead; one sister, Jamica Kay Bradshaw (Reggie) Pennington Mt. Vernon; aunts and uncles, Regina T. Burton of Brodhead, Linda (Ricky) Cannon of Hustonville, Tina Rice of Harrodsburg, Garry (Lana) Bradshaw of Harrodsburg; one nephew, Avery Taylor Bradshaw, two nieces, Jordyn Alyssa Pennington and Jaelyn Elaine Pennington; and a special friend, Courtney Barnett.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Lilli Bradshaw.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 2nd, at the Marvin E. Owens Funeral Home Chapel, Brodhead, with Bro. Shannon Franklin officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Willailla, KY.

GARY BROST

Gary Brost, 65, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Oxford, IN, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at his home.

Born May 27, 1942 in Lafayette, IN, he was the son of the late Leonard and Viola Evans Brost and was the husband of Linda Barnard Brost.  

He was a retired manager for Forsythe Land and Cattle and served on the Mercer County Cattlemen’s Board of Directors.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Glenda (Brian) Raifsnider of Brentwood, TN and Nancy (Jeff) Graham of Macon, GA; three sons, Chuck (Margaret) Brost of Lexington, Nick (Dalilah) Brost of Houston , TX and Michael (Christy) Brost of Oxford, IN and 14 grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Brost and a sister, Carol Brost.

The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Oxford, IN. Burial will be in the Oxford Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 3 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home  in Oxford.

J. C. DAVIS

John Cecil “J.C.” Davis, 86, of Louisville, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 in Louisville.

Born June 17, 1921 in Burgin, he was the son of the late John Cecil and Addye Baker Davis and was the husband of Rosemary Sallee Davis.

He was a member of Beargrass Christian Church Disciples of Christ and was retired as Executive Director of the Sons of the American Revolution.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Glen (Teri) Davis of Louisville; one daughter, Julie (Bill) McDonald of Lexington; two sisters, Louise Wells and Christine Huey; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert B. Davis and two sisters, Frances Voris and Imogene Ford.

The funeral was held Monday, Dec. 31 at Pearson’s Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial was in Burgin Cemetery.

Pearson’s Funeral Home in Louisville was in charge of the arrangements.

RED HENDREN

Mayford “Red” Hendren, 84, died on Dec. 25, 2007.

Born Nov. 24, 1923 in Tablow, he was the husband of Lucille Hendren.

He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and an employee of Ford for almost 30 years.

Survivors include: two daughters, Donna Bailey of Akron, OH and Vickie Boing (Dave) of Simpsonville, SC; one  son, Brent Hendren (Vonnie) of Akron, OH; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

The funeral was held Friday, Dec. 28, 2007. Burial was at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Copley, OH 44333 or the Chapel of Prayer Awana Program, 1811 Brittain Road, Akron, OH 44310.

JAMES HUMES

James Howard Humes, 82,  died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at UK Healthcare Good Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late Irvin and Stella Humes and was the widower of Nancy Humes.

He was a retired security guard from the University of Kentucky and an army veteran.

Survivors include: two sons, James (Regina) Humes Jr. and Raymond (Kim) Humes; one daughter, Mary (Bob) Feezor; two brothers, Osie Humes of Harrodsburg and Gene Humes of Moreland; three sisters, Bonnie Humes of Danville, Dorothy Robertson of Harrodsburg and Emma (Curtis) Corn of Moreland and five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Humes

The funeral was held Dec. 31, 2007 at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street, Lexington. Burial was in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.

WILLIAM JONES

William Paul Jones, 74, of Danville died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. 

Born May 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee and Amanda Dallas Allnutt Jones and was the husband of Evelyn Arnsparger Jones of Danville.

He retired from Terminix Intermational after 42 years of service. 

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons,  Paul (Peggy) Jones of Richmond, Brad (Kristin) Jones and Bruce (Angela) Jones, both of Danville; six grandchildren; one step-grandson and seven brothers and sisters. 

The funeral was held Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Stith Funeral Home with Rev. Quentin Scholtz officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

GENE MARCHIORO

Geno Marchioro, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.  

Born March 4, 1923 in Raton, NM, he was the son of the late Ernest and Nellie Marchioro.  

He was a retired coal miner, was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, and was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include: one son,  Gene Ray Marchioro of Montana; one sister, Leni Gallesini of Albuquerque, NM; one nephew, Jimmy Gallesini and special friends, Jack Mattingly and Kathy Smith both of Harrodsburg.

The funeral with Military Honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Father Danny Schwendeman officiating.  

No visitation will be held.

MICHAEL MONTGOMERY SR.

 Michael Bryan Montgomery Sr., 61, of Perryville, died Thursday December 27, 2007 in Lexington. He was the husband of Carol Lane Montgomery.

Born May 4, 1946, in San Luis Obispo, CA, he was a son of the late Eugene and Gertrude Pierce Montgomery.

Michael was a former employee of Bay West and a boat mechanic. He served in the Marines during the Vietnam War, serving two tours. He also attended the Catholic Church, was a lifetime member of the Danville Veteran of Foreign Wars, AMVETS, the Eagles and belonged to the Central Kentucky Black Powder Association.

Additional survivors include: one son, Michael Bryan Montgomery Jr. of Perryville; one stepson, Dean E. Spencer of MI; three stepdaughters, Billi Jo Diehl and Melissa Inmon, both of MI, and Shawna R. Lofton of Danville; three sisters, Collenne Brown, Sharon Thomas and Kathy Ceniceros, all of CA; four brothers, Floyd and Les Montgomery, both of CA, Harold Montgomery of OR, and Jack Beech of CA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Michaela Montgomery, Reilly and Brionna Spencer, Cody and Zackery Diehl, Duston and Quinci Inmon, and Spencer Lee Lofton.

A memorial service was held Sunday, December 30, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville.

The family requests no flowers, but donations to Gideon's International, The Kidney Foundation and the American Diabetes Association.

PAUL OVERSTREET

Paul Wesley Overstreet, 75, of Forkland, husband of Jean Edwards Overstreet died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at his residence.

Born Feb. 16, 1932, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Howard O. and Anna Myrtle Delaney Overstreet.

Paul was a member of the Gravel Switch United Methodist Church, where he served as song leader and enjoyed doing solos and special music. He was an artist, a retired employee of the Boyle County Fiscal Court, a former policeman with the Danville Police Department, a former draftsman for various industries, and a former employee of Corning Glass Works in Harrodsburg.

He was an active member of the NRA, a Civil War enthusiast enjoying 20 years as a civil war re-enactor, and an avid bow and gun hunter. He took pride in being a role model and mentor to many young men in the area. He took them camping and taught them the ways of frontier and outdoor living. He also taught them Civil War history and how to make and assemble rifles and muzzle-loaders.

Among Paul's many accomplishments, one he was particularly proud of was being awarded the Conservation Communicator of the Year award in 2005 by the Kentucky Wildlife Foundation.

Additional survivors include: two daughters, Paula Whitaker of Lexington and Susanna (Jeff) Ryan of Forkland; one sister, Madalyn Sheperson of Gravel Switch; four grandchildren, Katey and Jason Paul Lynch, Heidi Lowry and Kimberly Douglas; and a great-grandson, Caleb Lowry.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 28, at the Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, by Ollie Mae Wicker, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Wayne Edwards, Jeff Ryan, Scott Lowry, Jimmy Overstreet, Tim Hawkins and David Douglas.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Heritage Hospice and the American Cancer Society.

RUBY PROCTOR

Ruby Proctor,  97, of Burgin, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 11, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Atwood and Hattie Smith Proctor.   

She was a retired teacher for the Burgin Independent School System and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.

Survivors include a number of Cousins and special Caregivers, Barbara Leach, Dolly Stagner, Margaret O’Banion and Lenora Nave. 

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Lou Proctor Herrell, Christine Proctor and a brother, Ralph Walter Proctor.

The funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Carl McCray, Proctor Riggins and Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Delbert Ball, David Sims, Bob Webb, Fred VanArsdall, Curtis Bailey, Bill Bradshaw, G.T. Shannon and Charles Goodlett. 

Honorary pallbearers were Pat Lear, Bill Patrick, Guilford Waggener, Bill Waggener, Howard Waggener, Lawrence Hawkins, Doug Sanders, Bob Willams, Gene Robinson, Bucky Merriman, Eddie Russell, Steve Kestler, Don Kestler, Jerry Shepherd, Ernest Nave, Ron Leach, Bob Thompson, L.B. Oliver, Richard Webb and Dr. Scott George, Carol Montgomery and the Deacons and Sunday School Class Members.

ALENE TANNER

Alene Tanner, 90, of Bowling Green, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at Greenview Regional Hospital.

Born in Simpson County, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis Brown and Bessie Ashford Brown and was the widow of the late Jodie Tanner.

She was a homemaker and a   member of Lehman Avenue Church of Christ.

She is survived by: one son, Dr. James (Bonnie) Tanner of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Vicky Jane Thurman of Bowling Green; two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson, three nieces and two nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Lewis Brown.

The funeral was held Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Burial was in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Franklin.

JACKIE WHITTAKER

Jackie Whittaker, 67, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 15, 1940 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Daisey Golladay McGraugh and was the wife of Don Wayne Whittaker.  

She was a material expediter for Modine Manufacturing in Harrodsburg.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Diana L. Clark and Lucinda Cindy Whittaker; one son, Dwayne (Linda) Whittaker; one grandson, Christopher; three sisters, Patricia (Charles) Schoenbachler of Louisville, Peggy Schuenbein, Deborah (Darrel) Searle and one brother, Michael (Connie) McGraugh. 

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas W. Whittaker and three grandchildren, Matthew Clark, Michael Clark and Stacy Whittaker.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 2 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

ANNA CARRIER

Anna M. Carrier, 86, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.

Born July 2, 1921 in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Pearl Eades Vest.

She retired as a housekeeping manager for the King’s Island Inn.

Survivors include: four daughters, Ruth A. McKinney of Eubank, Peggy Taylor of Somerset, Vicki Carrier of Mackville and Bonnie Combs of Liberty; four sons, James S. Carrier of Sevierville, TN, Larry L Carrier of Lockland, OH, William Carrier of Burgin and Steven Carrier of Stanford; one brother, Cicero Vest of Lexington; 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Carrier, two brothers, Jr. and Roscoe Vest and a sister, Ella B. Carrier.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Ricky Shannon officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roger McKinney, James Marriott, Larry Carrier Jr., James Carrier Jr., Steve Carrier Jr., Clint Diskon, Shawn Broader and Eric Derringer.

JAMES FREEMAN

James Wheeler Freeman, Sr., 84, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at his residence.

Born Feb. 23, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Ruth Dean and Jasper Tate Freeman and was the husband of Pauline “Polly” Shields Freeman.

He was a partner with Kenneth Mann of Freeman & Mann Furniture in Lawrenceburg for 55 years, as well as a commercial and residential land developer in Lawrenceburg and Lexington. A member of the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church, he served as a Trustee over 25 years and was a member of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class. He also served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was a member of the Frankfort VFW Post #4075.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Phyllis (Jerry) Wilson of Harrodsburg and Shirley Tierney of Lawrenceburg; two sons, Keith (Kim) Freeman of Lexington and James (Alison) Wheeler Freeman, Jr. of Greensboro, NC; two step daughters, Donna (John) Eckman and Katrina (David) Oney, all of Lawrenceburg; five sisters, Flossie Cinnamon, Elizabeth Ellis and Frances Stocker, all of Harrodsburg, Nellie Anness of Nicholasville and Betty Demaree of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Thomas Freeman and Jack Freeman, both of Harrodsburg; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, six step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Lee Mann Freeman and a brother, Raymond Freeman.

The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Ehr and Bro. Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brad Gordon, James W. Freeman III, Adam Harvey Freeman, Kris Freeman, Beau and Lee Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Mann, Dave Disponett, Charlie Cammack, Marion Stucker, William H. Sullivan, Bill White, Edward Humston, Deanna Tracy, Brooke Freeman Drury, Heather Wilson Wessling, Kristi Wilson Tyldesley, Meredith and Kelly Freeman.

Memorials are suggested to be made to First Baptist Church, 111 North Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342 or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

WILLIAM GIBSON

William Coy Gibson, 93, of Liberty, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 at the Casey County Hospital.

Born May 27, 1914 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Timothy Gibson and Jane Elizabeth Johnson Gibson Foster and was the husband of Ollie Mae Buck Gibson.

He was a farmer and a carpenter and a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Rachel Estep of Chuckey, TN, Norma Turner of Liberty and Betty (Herman) Buck of Hentonville, IN; five sons, Gray Gibson of Liberty, Corbit (Judy) Gibson of Norwood, OH, David (Sue) Gibson of Goshen, OH, Danny (Linda) Gibson of Fayetteville, OH and William (Sue) Stafford of Bradfordsville; one step-son, Jimmy (Brenda) Sandusky of Windsor; one half-brother, Dennis Foster of Harrodsburg; 33 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ollie Lee McFarland Gibson, three daughters, Josephine Gibson, Barbara Derringer and Sandy Prewitt, one son, Lonnie Gibson, three brothers, Roy, Noah and Alvin Gibson, four half-brothers, Jack and Jim Gibson, Charles and Louie Foster and a half-sister, Adele Berry.

The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 5 at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Chad Owen and Bro. John Dean officiating. Burial was in Peavey Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carson Gibson, Jared Gibson, Kevin Gibson, Danny Ray Gibson, Ray Sandusky and Brian Malinao.

VIOLET GIBSON

 Violet Best Gibson, 87, of Russell Springs, formerly of Perryville, died Wednesday January 2, 2008 in Louisville.

Born Sept. 5, 1920 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late John Allen and Ruth Powell Best. She was the widow of Garnett Gibson.

She was a retired employee of American Greeting Corp. and a former employee of Palm Beach Co. She was a member of Square Oak Baptist Church in Russell Springs and a former longtime member of Antioch United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Jeanne Gibson Dunsmore of Russell Springs; two grandsons, William Stewart (Lisa) Dunsmore of IL and Roger Allen (Stacy) Dunsmore of Louisville; six great-grandchildren, Milissa (Phillip) Croghan, David (Carly) Dunsmore, Kyle and Allison Dunsmore, and Ashley and Hayley Wells; and one great-great grandchild, Will Dunsmore.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, at the Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville by Rev. Bobby Conner and Rev. Brian Ebel, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kyle and David Dunsmore, Doyle and David Gibson, Tim Banks, Doug Edwards and Roy Leon Gibson.

Visiting hours will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

CONNIE HORN

Connie B. Horn, 79, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Oct. 21, 1928 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late L.B. and Mable Lester Horn and was the husband of Chloe Gertrude Lester Horn.  

He served during the Korean war in the Army, served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church of Danville and was a self employed farmer. 

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Marcella Susan (Jonathan) Baldwin of Bowling Green and Melinda Lee (Donnie) Sexton of Burgin; one sister, Christine Montgomery of Harrodsburg and three grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by two brothers, W.A. “Billy” Horn and Harold J. Horn.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Tim Mathis and Tony Pike officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Russ Baldwin, Lewis Sexton, Brian Sexton, Bud Sexton, Eddie Russell and Bill Marks.

MYRON LAWSON

Myron Lance Lawson, 91, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at his home.

Born March 18, 1916 in Washington County, he was the son of the late George Wesley and Lettie Toms Lawson and was the widower Celestial Ruby Pankey Lawson.

He was a farmer and a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher.

Survivors include: two daughters, Peggy (Nelson) Reynolds of Washington County, Betty (Randy) Sims of Harrodsburg; three sons, Donnie (Pat) Lawson, Danny Lawson and Tony (Debbie) Lawson all of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Lucille Skeans of Benton, Jewell Strange-Doloway of Louisville and Inelle Settles of Springfield; two brothers, McKinley Lawson of Mooresville and Lonnie Lawson of Fern Creek; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Lawson, three brothers, Truman, Norman and Corbit Lawson and two sisters, Zelma Lay and Alma Reynolds.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 7 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lewis Walters and Nelson Reynolds officiating. Burial was in the Deep Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Marty, Adam, Jerry, Casey, Danny and Lance Lawson, Justin Reynolds and Randy Sims.

VIRGINIA NICHOLS

Virginia Richmond Nichols, 77, of 908 Perryville Road, wife of Howard B. Nichols, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Born May 23, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Pauline Crick Richmond.

She was a self-employed beautician, a member of the Doris Davis Circle, was a charter board member for the Christian Life Center, and a member of the Harrodsburg Methodist Church.

Survivors, other than her husband, include: one son, Ronnie Hamlin, Mercer County; two daughters, Traci Nichols Bishop, Pikeville and Patricia Hamlin Marrs, Warner Robins, GA; one brother, Robert Richmond, Mercer County; one sister, Gladys Long, London, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Buddy, Everett, and LeRoy Richmond and Artman and Bill Hamlin, and one sister, Alene Dean.

A memorial service will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, January 12, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church by Rev. Ken Klemme and Rev. Jimmy Owens.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to be given to the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Dale S. Sutherland, 69, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at her home in Harrodsburg.

Born March 20, 1938 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Myrtle Hatchell Smith.

She was a retired office manager for Radiology West, Houston, TX.

Survivors include: one daughter, Suzanne Sutherland of Houston, TX and a sister, Dianne Johnson of Atlanta, GA.

BETSY VANDIVER

Betsy Harris Vandiver, 85, of Grand Rapids, MI, died Jan. 2, 2008.

Born July 20, 1922 in Harrodsburg, she was the widow of the late Thomas Vandiver.

She was a former R.N. trained at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington and also worked at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was a long time member of Grace Episcopal Church, a member of St. Luke’s Guild, the Women’s City Club and “The Old Neighborhood.”

Survivors include: one son, Steven (Jill) Nesbitt of Battle Creek, MI; three daughters, Michele (Jim) Cooper, Marsha (Doug) Bustraak and Linda (Bill) Soldaat; seven grandchildren and two nieces, Rita (Jack) Atwell and Becky (Lewis) Price of Harrodsburg.

A private memorial service was held with interment in the Grace Episcopal Church columbarium.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the Grace Church Endowment fund or the charity of one’s choice.

IKE BOTTOMS

R. C. “Ike” Bottoms, 76, of  Lexington,  died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at the Veterans Medical Center in Lexington.

A native of Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Roy and Clora Bottoms and was the husband of Polketta Bottoms. 

He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Brotherhood and Choir, served in the US Army during the Korean War and retired from Trane Co. 

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Timothy L. Bottoms; one step-son, Tim Jewett; one brother, Fred (Arnetta) Bottoms of Harrodsburg; one sister, Mary Moore of Lexington; seven step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie “Jackrabbit” Bottoms.

The funeral will be held 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Lexington with Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. 

Visitation after 10 a.m. Friday until time of service.

EDITH BRISTO

Edith A. Bristo,  64, of Salvisa, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at her home.

Born Feb. 28, 1943 in Frankfort, she was the daughter of the late Elwood Darland and Omega Ruth West  and Jimmie Pittman of Salvisa and was the wife of James “Jim” A. Bristo,.

She was a former nursing aide at the Kentucky State Hospital, a former mail clerk at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and was a member of the Burgin Church of God.

In addition to her husband, mother and stepfather,  survivors include: one daughter, Sylvia Ruth (J.W.) Willis of Anderson County; one son, David (Melissa) Tharpe of Lexington; four grandchildren, Phillip (Alesha) Pittman, Michael (Leah) Caudill, Rocky (Jessica) South and Ashley (Drew) Hammond and five great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Donnie Irvin officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

NORMA CRESS

Norma Jean Cress, 48, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.  

Born Jan. 24, 1959 she was the daughter of David Earley of China Grove, NC and the late Linda Beaver Earley and was the wife of Leon Cress.  

She was a former day care director of Main St. Baptist Church Day Care in China Grove, NC and was a member of Main Street Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and father, survivors include:  one daughter, Amy Cosby of Harrodsburg; two sons, Leon Miles Cress of Wilmore and Jessie Dwayne Cress of Kannapolis, NC; two sisters,  Debbie Fields of Richmond and Judy Cornett of Tennessee and ten grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in North Carolina.

CONSTANCE FLOYD

Constance "Connie" Floyd, 84, Danville, died January 9, 2008, at her residence.

Born March 14, 1923, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late O'Neill and Elizabeth Turcotte. She was the widow of John L. Floyd Sr.

She was a retired registered nurse with many years of service at Ephraim McDowell Hospital, Eastern State Hospital and Northpoint Training Center. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, an avid bowler, golfer and a huge UK fan.

Survivors include: two sons, John L. (Pam) Floyd Jr. and Guy Thomas (Debbie) Floyd; four daughters, Janet (Larry) McLeod of Ocala, FL, Carol Singleton of Danville, Sharon (George) Barker of Georgetown, and Barbara (Rick) Burton of Harrodsburg; a brother, Paul Turcotte of Issaqual, WA; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Floyd, Damon Collins, Bo Floyd, Guy Thomas Floyd II, Jeremy Jones and Jeremy Burton.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Brightleaf Golf and Bowling Team, Mary Stuart Guerrant and Sophia Hrovat.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home.

Charles “Buster” Jackson, of Shelbyville, died Monday Jan. 14, 2008 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville. 

He was a member of Eastwood Methodist Church. Middletown Masonic Lodge # 732, Louisville Scottish Rite, Kosair Shiners and the Middletown VFW Post # 1170 and an Army Veteran.

Survivors include: one stepdaughter, Pam (Don) Floyd of Shelbyville; one sister, Katherine Evans of Eastwood; two grandaughters, Apryl McQuerry of Harrodsburg and Brandi Raizor of Shelbyville and two great grandchildren, Savannah and Jacob.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Shannon Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Temple Jr. officiating. Burial in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church with burial in Lee Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home, Greensburg, and at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

DAVID STEWART

David L. Stewart, 57, of Nicholasville, husband of Sandi Stewart, died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at his residence.

Born in Lexington, he was the son of the late David E. and Mary Thomas Stewart.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a retired Lexington firefighter, a member of the Bluegrass Sportsman Club and an avid fisherman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: his children, Richard Allen (Cindy) Hawkins of Alabama; a daughter, Michele (Fred) Rogers of Nicholasville; a “second son”, Daniel James of Nicholasville; three grandchildren, Lauren and Jordan Rogers and Drake Hawkins; siblings, Betty (Ed) Moore of Georgetown, William L. Stewart of Somerset and Brenda Womack of Harrodsburg; several nieces and nephews; and beloved pets, Maggie, Caty and Barley.

He was preceded in death by; a son, Charles “Scott” Hawkins; and siblings, Joyce Stewart, Shirley Parsons and Eugene Stewart.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from4-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Rick Helvey, Donald Durham, Mark Creech, Ed Moore, Jr., Wesley Greathouse and William Greathouse.

JIMMY TAYLOR

Jimmy Leon Taylor, 65, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Oct. 10, 1942 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Beatrice Bottoms Taylor of Harrodsburg and the late William Irvin Taylor and was the widower of Nancy  Sallee Taylor,  

He was a retired mechanic.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: three daughters, Donna Brummett, Becky Taylor and Shelia Turner all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Ryan of Harrodsburg and two grandchildren, Clayton Turner and Shelby Brummett.  

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Wayne Taylor and Carl Dudley Taylor.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with  John David Lane officiating. Burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Tommy Brummett, Jeff Turner, Clayton Turner, Carl Dudley Taylor Jr., J. T. Logue, and Terry Taylor.

Samuel Ray Travillian, 74, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at his home.

Born Oct. 17, 1933 in Laurel County, he was the son of Jessie Lee Crick Travillian of Harrodsburg and the late Pleas Travillian and was the widower of Jessie Louise Sallee Travillian.        He was retired from maintenance at General Electric in Louisville and was a member of the Light House Assembly of God.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: four daughters, Sue (Terry) Gordon of Salvisa, Reeda (Robert) Rowland of Danville, Joyce (Jim) Ely of Harrodsburg and Sandy (Ricky) Long of Harrodsburg; one son, Joe (Kim) Travillian of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Samantha Sturdivant  and Zetta Lanham, both of Danville and Mable Carrier of Frankfort;  three brothers, George Travillian of FL, Lonnie Travillian and Pleas Travillian Jr., both of Harrodsburg; 13 grandchildren, Tricia Camden, Amy Coleman, Annie Craig, Robert Rowland II, Amanda Sallee, Gloria Eldridge, Michael Long, Jessica Gordon, Zac Gordon, Ty Gordon, Samantha Travillian, Jacob Travillian, and Lillian Travillian and 11 great grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Stallard and David Travillian; one son, Samuel Russell Travillian and a grandson, Richard Ray Long Jr.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Pete Toth and Terry Gordon officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Barry Camden, Wayne Doud, Tommy Craig, Michael Long, Zachary Gordon, and Shawn Sallee.

ARZELL WALKER JR

Arzell Davis Walker Jr., 64, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. 

Born Dec. 1, 1943 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Arzell Davis Walker Sr. and Mary Louise Hardin and was the husband of Louise Dean Walker. 

He was a retired employee of Universal Buttons in Lawrenceburg and member of the Centennial Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Joyce Walker Dean and Sandy Walker, both of Harrodsburg, and Mary (David) Burns of Baltimore, MD; four brothers, Keith, Glenn, and Gary Walker all of Harrodsburg and Carl Walker of Columbus, OH; one sister, Mary Francis Dunn of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, George Howard Walker.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at the Centennial Baptist Church with Elder J.D. Short, III and Bros. Windrell Hunn and Herman Bradshaw officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Elery, Wayne Andrews, Larry Andrews, Vester Young, Robert Dean, Jr., Tyrone Dean, Lamont Trigg, Jerome Dean, Antonio Dean, James Elery, Jr., James Lyons and Richard Lee Dean, Jr.

MARY WITHERS

Mary Agnes Potts Withers, 93, of Nicholasville, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at Royal Manor in Nicholasville.  

Born Jan. 5, 1915 in Dunnville, she was the daughter of the late Zachary and Lula Hammons Potts and was the widow of Malcolm C. Withers.  

She was a former nursing assistant, an active member Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington.

Survivors include: one son,  Donald O. (Mary Jane) Withers of Nicholasville; one daughter,  Annette (Ben) McNees of Rockwood, TN; four grandsons;  one great-grandson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

She was preceded in death by two daughters,  Sue and Lavern Withers, a granddaughter,  Gretta Jane Withers, twelve siblings and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at Brookside Baptist Church in Nicholasville with Rev. Robert Justus and Rev. DeWayne Brewer officiating.  Burial was in Poplar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Russell Springs with Rev. Phillip Cooper officiating. 

Pallbearers were Jeff, Royce and Kyle Withers, and Blake and Lance McNees.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Alvin “Dub” Allen, 64, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008.

Born June 11, 1943, he was the son of the late Alvin and Thelma Allen.

He was a member of the Elkhorn Baptist Church in Versailles.

Survivors include: two daughters, Debra (Richard) Reed and Belinda Gail Allen; one son, Rex Allen; one step-daughter, Amy (Will) Davis; one step-son, Westly (Jeri) Baker; two sisters, Joyce (Donald) Eldridge and Grace Helton and a special friend, Judy Baker.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael David Allen and one brother, George Allen.

Beulah Fae Bugg, 92, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.

Born Nov. 26, 1915 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George and Cordelia Claunch Durr and was the widow of Edward  Bugg.   

She was a former cafeteria employee of Rose Hill and Mercer County schools and a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Church. 

Survivors include: four sisters, Denia Norton, Beatrice Gritton, Melvina Cheatham, and  Virginia Robertson of Harrodsburg; four brothers, William Durr, Morris Durr of Harrodsburg, Leslie Durr of Mercer County and Chandler Durr of Ginesville, FL and several nieces & nephews.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008  at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with David Crow and Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Robertson, Jeff Robertson, William Morris Durr, Lynn D. Durr, George Cheatham, Joe Cheatham, Leslie Andrew Norton and Roy Durr.

Sharon Kay Fredrick, 58, of Lexington, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at her home.

Born Nov. 18, 1949 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Lucy Gay Stone Francis.   

She was a  caregiver.

Survivors include:  one daughter, Cecilia Kay Smith of Harrodsburg; two sons, Thomas Wayne Coffman of Harrodsburg and William Lloyd Poynter, Jr. of Washington County; one brother, Cecil Francis, III. of Harrodsburg; step father, Cecil Francis of Salvisa and seven grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Lee Fredrick and William Thomas Fredrick, Jr.

Funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Hillcrest Memorial Park with Terry Morrison officiating.

Sue A. Jackson, 91, 570 of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born May 2, 1916 in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Wright Murphy and was the widow of Lowell Jackson.   

She was a homemaker and a member of the Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty (J.L.) Devine of Harrodsburg; two sons, Donnie (Charlotte) Jackson and Tommy (Jane) Jackson, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Pearl Meredith of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by a grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wayne Jackson, Todd Devine, Mike Voris, Mike Doyle, Austin Jackson and Gerhardt Roos.

GILBERT JONES

Gilbert L. Jones, 81, died Wednesday January 16, 2008 at Golden Living nursing home.

Born March 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Charlie and Nannie Mae Brummett Jones.

He was a truck driver for Carnation Milk Co. for 17 years, and also drove for Stanford Ready Mix and Lincoln County Ready Mix.

Survivors include: his wife, Maonia Shannon Jones; three sons, Gilbert Jones Jr., Tom Jones and Charles Leonard Jones, all of Lexington; a grandson, Warren (Debbie) Bottoms of Somerset; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Mikayla Bottoms; two brothers, Paul Jones and Charles Jones, both of Stanford; five sisters, Nellie Denny, Lois Ann Carrier of Lancaster, Eula Parks of Lexington, Beulah Garner of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Arvina Fowler of Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 19, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford by Rev. Max Hester. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arnold Stogsdill, J. B. Burton, Robert Elkins, Deward Jeffries, Warren Bottoms and Jeff Ritzler.

Honorary bearers were members of Stanford Baptist Church Men's Sunday School class.

Memorials may go to Alzheimer's Association.

Carolyn Joyce Neal, 73, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 at her home.

Born June 17, 1934 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late George and Pearl Cassity Haddix.   

Survivors include: one sister Barbara Faye Haddix Sallee of Harrodsburg; one brother, Roy Mitchell Haddix of Harrodsburg and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rita J. Smith and three brothers, Kenneth, George and Leland Haddix.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Lexington with Ralph and Rodney Sallee officiating.  

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

CECIL PERKINS

Cecil Perkins, 86, of Milton, formerly of Mercer County, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the University of Louisville Medical Center.  

Born Feb. 14, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Louis Melt and Frankie Ellen Meadors Perkins and was the widower of Mildred King Perkins.  

He served in with the U.S. Army during WWII and was a retired journeyman electrician.  He was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church and attended Milton Baptist Church.  

Survivors include: two daughters, Cecile (Doug) Martin of Lexington and Phyllis Gayle (Ferrill) Davis of Milton;  one sister, Mae Simms of Burgin and three grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters,  Michelle Martin and Paige Davis.

The funeral was Wednesday,  Jan. 23, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating.  Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were William Ronnie Grimes, Ray Davis, Rob Davis, Earl Campbell, David Perkins and Jason Martin. 

Honorary pallbearers were Ferrill Davis and Lee Sharp.

Margaret Lou Whalen ,92, widow of Charles T. Whalen , died Tuesday January 15, 2008.

She is survived by: two sons, Thomas G. Coffman, Lexington and Edward G. (Kay)Coffman, Chesterfield, MI; a daughter Norma W. Shely, Lexington; stepchildren, Carolyn (Don) Shields , Paris, and Eugene (Daisy) Whalen, Cynthiana; one brother, Guy C. Phillips, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Friday, January 18, at the W.R. Milward- Southland.

Sylvia Beatrice Johnson Whitt, 93, widow of E. P. Whitt, Sr. of Brodhead, passed away, Thursday, January 17th, 2008 at the Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Brodhead.

She was born February 2, 1914 in Mechanicsburg, OH; a daughter of the late Andrew Johnson and Zella Higgens Johnson.

She had been a member of the homemakers, was a member of the Brodhead Baptist Church, and enjoyed W.M.U., as well as teaching Sunday school.

Survivors include her children: Louise Donahue of Lexington; Sam (Judy) Whitt of Proctorville, OH; E. P. (Lorraine) Whitt, Jr. “Pat” of LaCrescenta, CA; Linda (John) Glovak of Salyersville; and Lawson (Toddy) Whitt of Burgin; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E. P. Whitt, Sr., two grandchildren and one sister, Elizabeth Smith.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 21, at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, Brodhead, with Bro. Don Jones officiating. Burial was in Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead.

Mary Ann Cutter Turpin Willoughby, 91, Junction City died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born May 10, 1916 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Edna Baxter Cutter and was the widow of Virgil Turpin and Bill Willoughby.  

She was a member of Alum Springs Church of God and the Love of God Ministries.    

Survivors include: one daughter, Mildred Jean (Avorn) Reynolds of Junction City; one sister, Geneva Duke of Lancaster; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by  three brothers, George, Albert and Junior Cutter and three sisters, Alpha Douglas, Pearl Douglas and Inez Rogers.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Himes officiating.  Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.     

Pallbearers were Tim Reynolds, Randall Reynolds, Kenneth Reynolds Sr., Kenneth Reynolds Jr., T.J. Reynolds and Sammy Reardon.

Paula L. Young, 52, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 at the UK Medical Center after a long illness. 

Born Jan. 28, 1955 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Young and Grace P. Bess. 

She was a 1974 graduate of Harrodsburg High School where she was selected as “Most Athletic” during her senior year. She was a member of the St. Peter AME Church where she was also a member of the Women’s Ministry and Lay Organization.

Survivors include: one sister, Gracie Allen of Harrodsburg; three step-sisters, Mary Agnes Young, Arnessa Gale Young and Annetta Young Bartleson, all of Harrodsburg; three step-brothers, Leroy Anthony Young of Danville, Danny Lee Young and Alfred Thomas Young, both of Harrodsburg and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside were held Wednesday in the Maple Grove Cemetery with Bro. Ralph Smith officiating.. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

SUSIE ANDERSON

Susie Marie Bow Anderson, 70, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 in Anderson County.

Born Oct. 10, 1937 in Cumberland, CO, she was the daughter of the late Stephen Tyler and Mary Lula King Bow and was the widow of Vernon Anderson.

She was a babysitter, caregiver and a member of Burgin United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s Group. She was active in the Mercer Senior Citizens.

Survivors include: two sons, Stephen Vernon Anderson of Lawrenceburg and Stanley Ray Anderson of Wellington; two brothers, Russell Leon Bow of Glendale and Stephen Tyler Bow Jr. of California; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Randall Bow.

The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Lester officiating. Burial was in the Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Stephen Vernon Anderson, Stanley Ray Anderson, Cory Anderson, David Stagner and Dakota Anderson.

VERLIN BURNS

Verlin Hugh Burns, 74, of Mackville, died. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 in the emergency room of Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

Born Aug. 30, 1933 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Reco and Lillie Warner Burns and was the husband of Jean Bishop Burns.

He was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a 1951 graduate of Mackville High School, a retired rural mail carrier and formerly owned and operated a milk hauling business. He was a charter member of the Mackville Lions Club, a volunteer leader of the Mackville Boosters, served on the board of the Mackville Community Development, was very instrumental in the renovating of the old Mackville School into the Mackville Community Center and also served on the Lincoln Trail Area Development District Board of Directors.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: five daughters, Beverly (Bobby) Humes, Karen (Gary) Carney and Jackie (Bobby Lee) Russell, all of Mackville, Janice (Tim) Hall of Lexington and Renee (Mark) Burns-Hinton of Frankfort; one sister, Nona Schildknecht of Louisville; two brothers, Randall (Juanita) Burns of Cardwell and Mitchell (Dotty) Burns of Mackville; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Burns Hinton and a sister, Velma Jenkins.

The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 26 at Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. Micah Carter, Rev. David Gifford and Bro. Fred Whitacre officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Pallbearers were Jared Russell, Tyler Russell, Christopher Hinton, Zachary Hinton, William Perkins, Jerry Burns, Gary Jenkins, Donald Jenkins and Bob Burns.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Mackville Baptist Church and the Adult Men and Women’s Sunday School Class.

Evelyn Maureen Bottom Endicott, 91, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at the Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

Born Dec. 16, 1916 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Fay Nelson and Mae Mattherly Bottom and was the widow of the late William Oney Endicott.

She was the former co-owner of William’s Lumber & True Value Hardware in Lawrenceburg, a member of the Sand Spring Baptist Church, former member of the Swinging Saints, member of the Sand Spring Baptist Church Choir, a former nursery worker, GA Leader, vacation bible school worker, helped organize the Sand Spring Senior Adult Group, a former member and past president of the Lawrenceburg Business and Professional Women’s Club and former member of the Lawrenceburg Women’s Club.

Survivors include: one son, William F. (Mary Frances) Endicott of Sacramento, CA; one sister, Lorraine Bottom of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Sand Spring Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Hamrick and Dr. Dave Charlton officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Christine E. Ervin, 72, of Mercer County, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. 

Born Sept. 9, 1935 in West Liberty, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Edith Goodall Frisby and was the wife of Lewis Kelly of Wilmore. 

She was a homemaker and a member of the Worldwide Church of God.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: three daughters, Angie (Fred) Herald of Mercer County, Sue Dunn of Wilmore and Sharon (Freddie) Boswell of Mercer County; one son, Randy Ervin of Mercer County; two brothers, Carrol Eugene Frisby of Burgin and David Frisby of East Bernstadt; ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a husband, James Travis Ervin, a son, Rex Ervin and a grandson Bryan Scott Boswell.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Dick and Elder John Bailey officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Boswell, Nathan Lewis, Jamie Abney, Stevie Jewell, Willie Frisby and Roger Frisby.

LOTTIE HIATT

Lottie “Bea” Hiatt, 86, of Nicholasville, widow of James Walter Hiatt, died Friday, January 25, 2008.

She was the daughter of the late James Henry and Nannie Calico Tyree.

She was also a retired medical techician and was a member of Tates Creek Christian Church where she was active in the Hannah Lydia Circle, the Better with Age Group and the Cross and Crown Sunday School Class. Mrs. Hiatt loved to travel and was known as a “World Traveler.”

Survivors include: four nephews, Darrell Rogers, Paint Lick, J. W. Tyree, Lexington, Merle Tyree, Georgetown and Glenn Miller, Danville; two nieces, Norma J. Benge, Lexington and Mildred Faye Layton, Harrodsburg; several great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Francis Tyree.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 29, at the the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Tony Huffman, 50, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born June 26, 1957 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Katherine Louise Trisler Huffman and the late Clarence Huffman.

He was a former cabinet maker, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM, Oleika Shrine Temple, St John #125, Daviess Chapter #29, an Ambassador to Masonic Homes, and Vice President of the Wilderness Shrine Club, W.R. Selby Sr. Chapter #4, Danville Council #3 and the Ryan Commandery #17.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: two sisters, Lisa (James) Rousey of Stanford and Brenda Hall of Harrodsburg; one half brother, Clarence Huffman Jr. of NJ and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Saturday, January 26 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lewis Walter officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mitch Cocanougher, Kenny Burkhead, Don, David and Mike Huffman, Wayne and Danny Jackson and Danny Rawlings.

RICHARD JOHNSON

Richard Greene Johnson MD, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008.

Born June 3, 1921 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Greene L. Johnson and Ann W. Stout and was the husband of Agnes Johnson.

He was a member of the Board of Trustees at Centre College, served in WWII, a member of the clinical faculty of the UCLA School of Medicine, medical Director of the Westwood Psychiatric Hospital and was a member of the Southern California Psychiatric Society where he served as president and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Richard G. (Barbara) Johnson Jr and Craig Wallace Johnson; two daughters, Carole (Jim) Bultema and Holly Johnson and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Cave Hill Cemetery.

LINDA PHILLIPS

Linda Merrick Phillips, 55, of Burton Circle, Danville, died Monday, January 28, 2008, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Sunday, December 21, 1952, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of Bernice Sims Merrick of Danville and the late George P. Merrick.

Linda was a licensed CNA and worked for BHI Assisted Living in Danville.

Survivors include: her husband, whom she wed on August 20, 1999, Charlie Phillips; her mother, Bernice Sims Merrick of Danville; four sons, Jimmy Galloway, Jr. of Liberty, Brandon C. (Karen) Galloway of Charleston, NC, Wayne T. (Karen) Phillips and Jared T. Phillips, both of Danville; four daughters, Leslie (Randy) Knies of Harrodsburg, Natasha Galloway of Danville, Kelly (Allen) Ryan of Danville, Vicki (Ron) Moore of New Albany, IN;  two brothers, George P. “Buddy” Merrick IV of Forkland and Robert Elwood “Bobby” Merrick of Danville; seven grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Sargent.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 31, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Bro. Tim Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jared and Wayne Phillips, Allen Ryan, Bob Davenport, Gordon Montgomery and Andrew Gourley.

ARNOLD RILEY

Arnold Riley, 87, of Gravel Switch died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 in Lexington. 

Born July 24, 1920 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Dave and Mattie Kimberlin Riley and was the widower of Madelle Reynolds Riley.

He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, a Purple Heart recipient serving during World War II with the U.S. Army and was a retired self employed farmer and water hauler.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sue (Randy) Glasscock, of Perryville, Kathy (Steve) Goldsberry and Lisa (Tommy) Campbell, both of Harrodsburg; three sons, Robert (Aleene) Riley, Bertice Lee (Jeannie) Riley, both of Perrysville and Randall (Nancy) Riley of Danville; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at the Wilder Funeral Home with Rev. John David Lane officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Rites by Battlefield Post 301.

Pallbearers were Dale, Jason and Scott Riley, Michael McHolan, Ethan Campbell, Jacob Sims, Ashley Gorley and Malcolm and Jarrett Peavler.

Honorary pallbearers were his great grandchildren.

MELVA RILEY

Melva L. Riley, 87, of Burgin, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Sept. 27, 1920 in Boyle County, she was the daughte of the late Robert and Mimie Katherine Baker Munday and was the widow of Roy D. Riley. 

She was a Homemaker, an active and faithful member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church, the Widow to Widow Group and W.M.U.

Survivors include: two sons, Jackie Riley of Burgin and Cecil Riley of Harrodsburg; one sister, Ruby Milburn of Danville; three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Ann Riley and three brothers, Roy, Ralph, and Raymond Munday.

The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church with Bro. Ralph Neal and Gary Story officiating. Burial was in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roy Lee Sanders, Douglas Sanders, Kenny Milburn, Ronnie Milburn, Pat Lear, and Carroll Price.

Honorary pallbearers were Carla Grider, Harold Hullette, Larry Sanders, Members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and employees of Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

WICKLIFFE ROGERS

Wickliffe Scott Rogers, Jr., 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 in Lexington.

Born Feb. 2, 1922 in Danville, he was the son of the late Wickliffe Scott and Christie Mable Jones Rogers and was the widower of Ruby Jo Rogers and Nancibel Williams Rogers.

He was a member and class president of the first graduating class at Lafayette High School and attended the University of Kentucky. During WWII served as a CAA flight instructor in North Dakota before returning to Lexington to operate a CAA Flight Training School. He owned a large farming operation in Garrard County and was a member of The Dairy Farmer’s Association, The Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association, and The Kentucky Holstein Association. He was one of the founders and, from 1970 to 1978, president of the Garrard Co. Water District. He was also a member of the Garrard County Hospital Board and Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, W. Scott (Jean Allen) Rogers III of Danville; one daughter, Donna Jo Rogers of Lexington; one step-daughter, Julie (Bill) Ballard of Louisville; four grandchildren and one step granddaughter.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Valentine and Rev. Bob Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to be made to The Heart of Kentucky United Way, The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society or the Gallilean Children’s Home.

JOHN ROYALTY

John William Royalty, age 86, of Danville, died Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born Saturday, March 5, 1921, in Forkland, he was a son of the late Roscoe F. and Maggie Lee Hardin Royalty.

Mr. Royalty retired in 1982 from the United States Postal Service, after having worked 25 years. He was also a farmer and a member of the Danville Church of Christ. He was a United States WWII Army Veteran and received a Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wannetta Graham Royalty.

Survivors include: his wife, Naomi Lawrence Ellis Royalty; sons, Dale Alan (Cheri) Royalty of Houston, TX and Kent (Jennifer) Royalty of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; daughter, Karen (Terry) Ray of Somerset; step-sons, John Ellis of Boyle Co. and Greg Ellis of Bowling Green; brother, Hubert Royalty of Danville; sisters, Wilma Coffman of Danville, Laura Coyle of Nicholasville, and Juanita Bugg of Louisville; eight grandchildren, James and Eric Ray, both of Somerset, Graham Royalty of Dallas, TX, Austin, Samantha, and Barrett Royalty, all of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, and Emery and Winden Royalty, both of Houston, TX; brothers-in-law, Thomas Johnson of Danville and Marshall Graham of Nicholasville; sisters-in-law, Rosalyene Graham of Harrodsburg and Sylvia Royalty of Ooltewah, TN; seven step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 1, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville, with Bros. Steve Wolfgang and Scott Vifquain officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery with military funeral honors by American Legion Boyle Post #46

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, at the funeral home.

Gwendlyn C. Snowden, 61, of 412 Marimon Avenue, Harrodsburg, wife of Darryl  Snowden, died Monday, January 28, 2008.

She was born July 23, 1946 in Yakima, WA.

She was a homemaker and caregiver.

BILLY TUTTLE

Billy Wayne Tuttle, 45 of Paint Lick, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

He was born in Madison County on November 6, 1962.

Mr. Tuttle was a truck driver and mechanic for Peco, a member of Glory Land Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his wife, Jackie Tuttle of Paint Lick; his sons, Jason Hardin Tuttle of Paint Lick and Brent Allen Anderson of Harrodsburg; his father, Bige Tuttle of Lexington; his mother, Ethel Tuttle Pigg of Paint Lick; brother, Timmy Tuttle of Paint Lick; sisters, Janet (Perry) Kerby of Paint Lick, Carol (Jeff) Carmon of McKenny and Donna (Randy) Moore of Berea.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 25, at the Davis and Powell Funeral Home in Berea with Bro. Cecil Burns officiating. Burial was in Manse Cemetery at Paint Lick.

Helen Mae Houp Casey, 66, died Monday, January 28, 2008.

Helen was born March 30, 1941 at High Bridge to the late Walter Cleveland and Alma Baker Houp.

She was a retired baker from Shakertown.

Survivors include: one son, James Casey Jr., three grandchilden, Shannon, Debra and Jamie, three great grandchildren, Destiny, Xavier and Rhanna-all of Florida, special niece, Susie Houp, sister, Grace Johnson-both of Wilmore, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Horton and a brother, James Thomas Houp.

Services were held. Friday, February 1, at the Betts & West Funeral Home, Nichilasville, with Leonard Fitch officiating. Burial will be in Wilmore Cemetery.

Bearers were James R. Johnson, Danny Fielder, Tommy Dunaway, Marty Baker, Ray and Craig Whitaker.

WILLIAM COX

William “Willie” Thomas Cox, 59, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born September 2, 1948, he was the son of the late Elbert Raymond “Tubby” Cox and Arlene Belle Gaines Phillips.

He was a former employee with Lawrenceburg Supply and attended Alton Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid wrestling fan.

He is survived by: four brothers, Hollis Ray Cox, Donnie B. Cox and Raymond Phillips, Jr., all of Lawrenceburg, and Hugh Phillips of Harrodsburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert Ranzel Cox, and his step-father, Raymond F. Phillips.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 1, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Rick Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

HOLLIS ISHAM

Major (R) Hollis DeWayne “Wayne” Isham, 50, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008 in Lexington.

Born April 8, 1957 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of C.H. and Barbara Jane Parson Isham and was the husband of Anjam  Malik.     

He was a retired Major for the US Army and assistant professor of military science at Morehead State University where he was named Military Science Instructor of the Year and a member of the Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.  He had a very distinguished military career, from Platoon leader at Ft. Riley, KS; Theater Intelligence Watch Officer/Strategic Analyst at Camp Smith, HI; Brigade Intel Officer, Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer at Ft. Ord, CA; Combat Support Branch Chief and Military Intelligence Systems Manager in Alexandria, VA; multiple positions with the Defense Intelligence Agency and Pentagon.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include an aunt, Peggy Lewis and a cousin, Robin Lewis, both of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Travis Farris and Mark Thompson officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were ROTC Members.

Nona F. Mobley, 85, widow of Willard Mobley, of Rockford, IL died Sunday, January 27, 2008, in Rosewood Care Center.

Born March 7, 1922, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Lonie and Mary Young Baker.

Survivors include: two daughters, Janet (Bill) Goodnite and June Watson; six grandchildren, Julie (Shawn Holmes) Watson, Jason Watson, Sara (Ed) Watterson, Ginger (John D) Baker, Scott (Denise) Goodnite and Daniel (Andrea) Goodnite; five great-grand-children, Cody and Kendra Arnold, Grace Watterson and Hannah Goodnite; one sister, Alma Coslow of Willisburg; three brothers, Ruel and Harvey Baker, both of Kentucky, and Maurice Baker of AZ.

She was predeceased by her husband, and one brother, Everett Baker.

A funeral service was held Friday, February 1, in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park IL.

Entombment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park.

GUY PHILLIPS

Guy Clinton Phillips, 98, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 22, 1909 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William H. and America Bell Carter Phillips and was the widower of Elettra Jean Sims Phillips.   

He served in the Army during World War II, was an assistant maintenance engineer at Good Samaritan Hospital and a life member of the V.F.W Post 4075 in Frankfort.

Survivors include: three sons, Carl Clinton Phillips of Locust Grove, VA, Richard Guy Phillips of Frankfort and Monty Buel Phillips of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Richard McKinley officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kevin Perkins, Rick Phillips, Kyle Phillips, Glenn Devine, Joseph Johnston and LeMayne Ellis.

Imogene Devine Reed, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born Aug. 7, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Murlie Hellard Devine and was the wife of Calvin D. Reed.

She was a member of the Springfield Christian Church and was a graduate of Cornishville High School.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Kathy (Bill) Smith of Palmyra, IN; one son, Keith (Jackie) Reed of Springfield; a sister, Helen (James) Jenkins; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

The funeral was held Wednesday,  Jan. 30 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Burnice Richardson and Bro. Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Smith, Charlie Woodson, Terry Russell, Jerry Darland, Willie Cheser and Keith Matherly.

Carey and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

BILLY ROBINSON

Billy Robinson, 89, of North Point, FL, died January 12, 2008.

He was born in Salvisa on March 9, 1918.

He lived in Lawrenceburg and owned Robinson's Jewelry Store on Main Street. In 1961 he and his family moved to Port Charlotte, FL.

He was a pilot in the Army Air Corps, after which he became a watchmaker and owned Robinson's Jewelry in Punta Gorda, Fla. He was a member of the Punta Gorda Country Club, the Eagles, the Elks, and American Legion Post 103.

He is survived by: his wife, Nell Crossfield Robinson; two daughters Melody Naskale of North Port and Marlene (Stanley) Sims of Woodstock, GA; one son, Billy Robinson of Sarasota, FL; two sisters Hadgie Royalty of Louisville and Gladys Wathan of Salvisa; grandchildren, Daryl Naskale and his wife, Eve, Christopher Naskale and his wife, Angie, Andrew Wanda and his wife, Ferah, Julie LeCher and her husband, Jamie, great-grandchildren, Victoria and Christopher Naskale.

A graveside service with military honors was held January 16 at Indiana Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda.

Memorials are suggested as donations to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34228.

ETHEL SANDERS

Ethel Howard Sanders, 89, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 at the Rockcastle Hospital after a long illness.

Born Oct. 15, 1918 in Brodhead, she was the daughter of the late Jim L. and Margaret Brummett Howard and was the widow of Tennel Sanders.

She was a member of New Hope Church of God.

Survivors include: one daughter, Kathleen (William) Payne of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Carl Loren Sanders, two brothers and six sisters.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals Chapel, with Bro. Cecil Roundtree officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Roger Dale Sanders, B.J. Sanders, Patrick L. Gillespie, Danny Ray Sanders, David Ray McKnight and Wesley K. Douglas.

Ellen Marie Bauer Seelye, 76, Lexington, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 31, 2008.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Ellen (Gregory) Drake; Lexington, Richard Marshall (Debbi) Seelye, Jr. ; Peachtree City, GA and Barbara Ann Seelye (Michael Cassidy); Ridgway, CO.; three grandchildren, Marshall, Zachary and Kelsey; five step-grandchildren and one great step-granddaughter; two brothers, C. Franklin Bauer; Chagrin Falls, OH and Russell R. Bauer (Joan) Versailles and the family of F.G. Dempsey of Harrodsburg, Midway and Lexington.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Marshall Seelye.

Services were held Monday February 4, at The Cathedral of Christ The King.

While there was no visitation before the Christian services, the family celebrated Ellen Seelye’s life, after the burial at Lexington Cemetery, with food and fellowship at Hehman Hall at Christ the King.

Luther Austin Traynor, 83, husband of Mary Horn Traynor, died Wednesday January 30, 2008 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Luther and Sadie Perkins Trayner.

Mr. Traynor was a retired Lexington Police Officer and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, David (Cathey) Traynor, Lexington and Dennis (Valerie) Traynor, Jessamine County; a granddaughter, Michelle Traynor, Lexington; four brothers, Ronald Trayner, Midway, Rev. Morris Trayner, Danville, Howard Trayner, Washington County, and Lynn Trayner, Wilmington, OH; three sisters, Helen Wade, Lexington, Mary Alice McDonald, Greenville, SC, and Doris Carey, Louisville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Sherman Trayner.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 2, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Born Feb. 12, 1941 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Willie B. and Rosemary Devine Claunch and was the husband of Patsy Cummins Claunch.  

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and the U.S. Army Reserves, the American Legion, a member of the Grace Baptist Church where he also served as Elder, was a Kentucky Colonel, was retired Supervisor and Department Head at Corning Glass after more than thirty four years, and was presently working at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

He was very active in Mercer County Schools Sports, where he had also served on many committees with the school system and had been involved in Little League Basketball for sixteen years.  

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Todd (Chris) Claunch of Harrodsburg; four daughters, Carmen (Chris) Souder of Harrodsburg, Marta (Brandon) Robins of Harrodsburg, April (Joe) Pellegrino of Wiesbaden, Germany and Michelle (Lynn) Russell of Burgin; eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelli Claunch, half brother Tony Claunch, step-brother Carroll Hurst,and step mother Grace Russell Hurst Claunch.

The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 11 at the Alexander  and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Collier and Bro. Bill Eldridge officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Spring Hill Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Dion Long, Travis Long, Dantley Long, Jeff Anderson, Michael Anderson, Josh Devine, Gary Tomblin and Jimmy Ray Claunch.

RUSSELL CLEMONS

Russell Lee Clemons, Sr., 61, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, February 9, 2008.

He was a son of the late Raymond and Bertha Clemons.

He retired from Normandy Farm after 28 years.

He is survived by: five children, Angela Clemons and her fiancé Danny Maddix, Nicholasville, Russell Clemons, Jr., Nicholasville, Tina (Henry) Thurman, Lexington, Donald Clemons, Marion County and Derek Clemons, Lexington; eight grandchildren; a sister, Darlene (Larry) Sims; two brothers, Devaungh Clemons, and Mark Clemons.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Clemons.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, by Rev. Ronnie Hupp. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

MARGARET COLE

Margaret Sharp Cole, 87, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.  

Born October 14, 1920 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late James Stillwell and Lydia Brown Sharp Sr. and was the widow of Kenneth A. Cole.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Southside Christian Church in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Nadine Cole of Harrodsburg and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Sharp and James Stillwell Sharp, Jr.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Mark Webb and Bro. Larry Camic officiating. Burial was in Kirkwood Cemetery.

ALFRED D’AMBROSIO

Alfred “Sergeant  D” D’Ambrosio, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.  

Born Aug. 31, 1928 in North Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Valentino and Jennie Desimone D’Ambrosio and was the widower of Ella Hall D’Ambrosio.  

He was a Retired National Guard Recruiter serving Mercer, Anderson and Franklin Counties, had served in the United States Army, Air Force and Navy and was of the Catholic Faith.  He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Survivors include: two sons,  Joseph D’Ambrosio of Harrodsburg and John D’Ambrosio of New Jersey; one step-daughter,  Julia Clark Harrod of Frankfort; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Ursini D’Ambrosio of New Haven, CT and two grandsons.  

He was preceded in death by  a brother, Alphonse Vincent and two sisters, Mary and Carmella.

A memorial service will be held 7p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at the National Guard Armory.

Russell “Butch” Davis, 63, of Junction City, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at his residence.

Born Thursday, Oct. 19, 1944 in Knoxville, TN, he was the son of the late Russell Marion Davis Sr. and Irene Yocum Davis Kerby. 

He was a professional roller skater.

Survivors include his life companion, Etta B. Irvin of Junction City; one daughter, Jeannie Rebecca (Dalton) Hurst of Harrodsburg; a stepfather, Dave Kerby of Danville; one sister, Mary Ellen (Charlese) Rhodus of Hillsboro, OH; two grandsons and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dolly Davis, June Rhodes and Betty Warren.

Services were held Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Junction City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Danny Wilson, Floyd Harden, Wayne Wagner, Clinton Paget, Deaman Ray and Rex Rhodus.

Marlene Adington Haggard, 66 years, 10 months, 2 days, of Waynesburg passed away Sunday, February 10th, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born Wednesday, April 9, 1941 in Lincoln Co., she was the daughter of the late Lonnie & Gertrude Taylor Adington, a homemaker and a member of the Grace Fellowship Church.

Survivors include: her husband of fifty three years, Donald Haggard of Waynesburg; a son, Steve (Diane) Haggard of Waynesburg; three daughters, Pam (Larry) Gabhart of Harrodsburg, Donna (Sonny) Spoonamore of Stanford, Teresa “Cricket” (Scott) Carrier of Waynesburg; two sisters, Margie Wilhelm of Cincinnati, OH and Marcelene Stevens of Eubank.  Other survivors include grandchildren, Stephanie Haggard, Kim McRay, Chad Terrell, Amy Isaacs, Street Spoonamore, Tinsley Spoonamore, Nikki Hunt, Dustin Carrier, Ashley Carrier, Makayla Carrier, Austin Carrier, Mackenzie Carrier, Jason Gabhart; great-granchildren Nathan McRay, Noah McRay, Paisley Gabhart, Makayla Gabhart, Savanna Gabhart, Gabby Gabriel, Luke Isaacs, Jansen Durham, Kaitlyn Hunt, Garrett Carrier and Kirstin Lawless; and also by a special friend, Jan Whitis.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Darvin, Clinton, Bobby and Leo Adington.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, February 12, at the Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home, Waynesburg, with Bro. Vola Brown officiating. Burial was in Highland Methodist Cemetery.

CHARLES HAMBLIN

Charles William Hamblin, 81, died Feb. 4, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. 

He was the widower of Mary Josephine Parks Hamblin.

Survivors include: one son, Steve (Terri) Hamblin of Danville; one daughter, Elaine (Lonnie) Harris of Moreland; one sister, Audria Mae Roaden of Corbin; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.  

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Hamblin and a grandson, Jason Alan Hamblin. 

The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at Stith Funeral Home with Rev. William Hensley and Rev. Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Great American Brass Band Festival.

HOLLIS ISHAM

Major (R) Hollis DeWayne “Wayne” Isham, 50, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008 in Lexington.

Born April 8, 1957 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of C.H. and Barbara Jane Parson Isham and was the husband of Anjam Malik.   

He was a retired Major for the US Army and assistant professor of military science at Morehead State University where he was named Military Science Instructor of the Year and a member of the Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church. He had a very distinguished military career, from Platoon leader at Ft. Riley, KS; Theater Intelligence Watch Officer/Strategic Analyst at Camp Smith, HI; Brigade Intel Officer, Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer at Ft. Ord, CA; Combat Support Branch Chief and Military Intelligence Systems Manager in Alexandria, VA; multiple positions with the Defense Intelligence Agency and Pentagon.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include one aunt, Peggy Lewis of Harrodsburg; three uncles, Bobby Parson, Ramond Isham and Robert Lee Isham; two great aunts, Arthalina Leonard and Lora Mae Yankey and several cousins.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Travis Farris and Mark Thompson officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were members of the ROTC.

GROVER MULLINS

Grover Mullins, 57 of Richmond, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday February 10, 2008 at his home.

He was born on June 29, 1950 in Livingston, the son of the late John and Goldie Settles Mullins.

He had been a farmer and a employee of the Parks and Recreation for the City of Richmond. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the New Hope Holiness Church.

Survivors are: two sons, Jesse Mullins of Mt. Vernon and James Mullins of Richmond; two step sons, Leroy Monk Jr. of Mt. Vernon and Richard Harris of Berea, one daughter, Lisa Parms of Mt. Vernon; one brother, John Mullins Jr. of Hamilton, OH; five sisters, Marie Drew of Milford, OH, Barbara Lovell and Midge Lovell both of Mt. Vernon, Gayle Mullins of Richmond, and Karen Moore of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren; and his former wives; Elsie Gertrude Cox Mullins of Mt. Vernon and Janette Myers Mullins of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by one sister; Joann Medley.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, at the New Holiness Church. Burial was in the Jordan Family Cemetery at Cartersville, Garrard County.

JOE PERKINS

Joe Allen Perkins, 71, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at his home in Harrodsburg.

Born March 16, 1936 in Louisville, he was the son of the late John A. and Alene Tichenor Perkins and was the husband of Sue Miller Perkins.  

He was an Army Captain, serving during the Berlin Crisis for the 100th Division, retired as manager from Kentucky Utilities, was a member of the Solomon Lodge #5, Shelbyville, the Scottish Rite, Oleika Shrine, served as past president of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club, Harrodsburg Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees, was a Paul Harris Fellow, a board member for the Industrial Authority and Bluegrass Area Development, was active in the Boy Scouts, a 4H leader, co-founder of Pioneer Days and earned the Harrods Company Award. 

      In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son: Kevin (Ann Margret) Perkins of Harrodsburg; one daughter-in-law, Cari Perkins of Harrodsburg; and three grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by a son, John Perkins.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor, Phil Williams and Mark Thompson officiating. Burial, with Military Rites, was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alex Perkins, Kenny Wade, Marion Souder, Phil Williams, Roger Miller, David Miller, Joe Stevens and John Preston Perkins.

Nina Phelps Roysdon, age 82, of Burgin, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in Harrodsburg.

Born May 14, 1925, in Pulaski County, she was a daughter of the late Issac and Vera Roark Phelps. She was the widow of the late John Lewis Roysdon, Jr.

She was a retired cook and a member of Junction City Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her son, Ronnie (Gloria) Roysdon of Scobey, MS; one daughter, Rebecca Roysdon (Paul) Goss of Midlothian, TX; one brother, Eddie Burton of Danville; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Roysdon, a daughter, Donna Faye Roysdon Ross; and several brothers and sisters.

Artie Jewell Sheperson, 78, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.  

Born Jan. 6, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of  the late Herbert and Beulah Moore Sallee.  

She was a homemaker and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. 

Survivors include: two sons,  Charles Harmon  and Franklin Dane Goodlett, both of Harrodsburg; one daughter,  Monty Devine of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by three brothers,  James, William Herbert and Joe David Sallee and two sisters,  Helen Barnett and Virginia Currens.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating.  Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Darcy Rae Bell Waldridge, 41, Salvisa, died Wednesday February 6, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville.

She was the daughter of Evangeline Hayes Bell, Lawrenceburg, and the late John Clayton Bell.

She was a caretaker and a member of Fairview Christian Church. She was a graduate of Mercer County High School.

She is survived by her husband of 12 years E. Scottie Waldridge, Lawrenceburg, two half sisters, and one half brother; mother-in-law, Goldie Waldridge, Lawrenceburg; and several sisters and brother-in-law’s.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Tyler Bell.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 10, at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Grant Mathes. Burial was in Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville.

Casketbearers were Jerry Waldridge, William Waldridge, Larry Maddox, James D. Whitaker, Tony Waldridge, and John Michael Peach.

Elwood "Jack" Whitenack, age 75, Harrodsburg, husband of Shirley “Ann” Brown Whitenack, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at his home.

Born June 16, 1932 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Elwood and Mary Jane Sallee Whitenack.

He was a brick mason and a member of the V.F.W and the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include: his wife, Ann Brown Whitenack; three daughters, Rose (Mike) McKinney,  Kathy (Bill) Weber of Salvisa, and Carolyn (Lynn) Gammon of Harrodsburg; three sons, James "Buck" (Vonna) Whitenack of Harrodsburg, Billy (Dona) Whitenack of Lawrenceburg, Mike (Stephanie) Whitenack of Frankfort; five sisters, Georgia Napier of TN, Price (Glenn) Ransdell of IN, Pataline Morrissey and Ruth Haas of Harrodsburg, Cindy (Ronald) Riddley of Stamping Ground;  two brothers: Melton Whitenack of TX, Roland Whitenack of Harrodsburg; sister-in-law, Mary (Connie) Baker of Harrodsburg; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, George Darrell and Donald Hugh Whitenack, and two brothers, Jim and Carey Whitenack.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 15, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by John David Lane. Burial with military rites will be in the Mt Pleasant Presbyterian Cemetery.

WILLIAM DENNEN

William H. Dennen, 87, died Jan 20, 2008 in Bonita Springs, FL.

He was the husband of Shirley Anderson Coombs Dennen. Born in Gloucester, MA on April 8, 1920, he was the son of the late William L. and Ruth Lufkin Dennen.

He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and continued on serving in the reserves until 1964, where he retired as a Lt. Colonel. Mr. Dennen received his B.S. degree in Geology from M.I.T. in 1942 and PhD from M.I.T. in 1949. He was an Eagle Scout at the young age of 14. He first worked as an instructor in 1949 at M.I.T. and continued as an Assistant Professor from 1952-1957 and as an Associate Professor from 1957-1967.

He then went to the University of Kentucky where he was a Professor from 1967-1972, served as chairman of the Geology Dept. from 1967-1972 and was the Acting Dean of the Graduate School from 1970-1972. He was also the Director of Cabot Spectrographic Lab in the mid 1950's and from 1972-1983. He was involved in consulting and exploration in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Yukon Territory, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Colorado, Maine, Spain, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Australia, Liberia, Guinea and Ghana.

Mr. Dennen was also instrumental with the United States Geologic Survey, publishing bedrock maps for Cape Ann, Ipswich and Marblehead. He also published numerous technical articles and textbooks including "Principles of Mineralogy", "Geology and Engineering" and "Mineral Resources."

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two sons, William Dennen of Leesburg, VA and Peter Dennen of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Susan Dennen De Rodriguez of Tlalpan Mexico; a brother, Richard Dennen of Palos Verdes, CA; a stepson, David Coombs of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; a stepdaughter, Barbara Thompson of San Francisco, CA, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte Davidson Dennen, and a brother, David Dennen.

A memorial service will be held in the Trinity Congregational Church, Gloucester, MA at 11 a.m. Saturday April 12.

JANE HATCHETT

Jane Dawson Hatchett, 90, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

Born Nov. 10, 1917 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Dewitt Coleman and Juanita Stotts Vandiver and was the widow of James Emmett Hatchett.

She was a teacher for the Harrodsburg and Danville School Systems, a member of the Harrodsburg Historical Society, James Harrod Trust, Haggin Hospital Board, Harrodsburg Library Board and the Harrodsburg Women’s Club.

Survivors include: one daughter, Nancy H. Cascio of Harrodsburg; one son, William Patrick Hatchett of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Troy Cascio.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Ken Klemme officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William H. “Bill” Hatchett, “Buzz” Nimrod Buster, Nick Dedman, Keith Batterton, John Sims and Lewis Prewitt.

Linda Fay Harmon, 44, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at her home in Harrodsburg.

Born June 7, 1963 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Wallace G. and Bessie Mae Davis Key and was the widow of Thomas Lee Harmon.

She was an LPN at the Springview Hospital in Lebanon, a member of the Presbyterian church and a former member of the Pioneer Saddle club.

Survivors include: three daughters, Keasha L. Harmon of Willisburg, Jennifer Marie Harmon of Harrodsburg and Hannah Bea Harmon of Washington County; one son, Thomas Lee Harmon of Washington County; one brother, George (Wendy) Key of Hustonville; one niece and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Key.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with J. W. Hatfield officiating. Burial was in the Willisburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Key, Travis Key, David Noel, Jesse Morris, Anthony Harmon and Phillip Kirkpatrick.

Garnett C. Jones Sr., 81, co-founder of Piggly Wiggly of Baton Rouge and Lafayette, LA, formerly of Anderson County, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Baton Rouge.

He is survived by: his wife, Vada Jones, Baton Rouge; daughter, Jennifer Jones (Tim) Matthews, of Denham Springs; three sons, and spouses, Garnett "Skipper"(Cecilia) Jr. Jones, of Baton Rouge; Charles "Chuck" (Linda) Jones, of Denham Springs; and Jeffrey Sr. (Rhonda) Jones, of Gonzales; two sisters, Gladys Jones Satterly, and Julia "Dolly" (Randall) Robinson Robinson, both of Lawrenceburg; a brother, Glen Jones, Richmond; 13 grandchildren, Danielle Satawa and husband Jamie, Melissa Knutsen, Garnett "Chip" Jones III, Jeffrey Jones, John Jones, Dakota Jones, Tim Matthews, Wesley Matthews, Dillon Matthews, Tony Bostwick, Marty Bostwick, Darla Cefoila, and Doris Ray Bostwick; and six great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Knutsen, Christian Knutsen, Brayden Satawa, Luke Matthews, Skylar Bond and Cameron Bond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Julia Belle Jones; brother, Sam Jones; son, Edward James Jones; and daughter Laura Lynn Jones.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 18, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. John Hockersmith officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery in Mercer County.

TED KIRKPATRICK

Ted M. Kirkpatrick, 57, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born Jan. 15, 1951 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Elmer Lee and Ethel King Kirkpatrick and was the husband of Donna Hoover Kirkpatrick.

He was a retired self-employed carpenter, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Richard Dale (Sondra) Kirkpatrick of Cornishville; three daughters, Tabatha Jean (Brian) Lewis of Lexington, Mellissa (Alvin) Buck of Cornishville and Elizabeth Ashley (Josh) Collier, also of Cornishville; one brother, Connie (Marsha) Kirkpatrick of Rose Hill; five sisters, Toni Holt of Harrodsburg, Ida Mae Peavler of Dayton, OH, Joann Price of North Carolina, Eunice Deaton of Harlan County and Jackie Purcell of California; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating.  Burial was in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Richard Kirkpatrick, Connie Kirkpatrick, Brian Lewis, Phillip Kirkpatrick, Alvin Buck, Josh Collier, Patrick Holt and Jackie Satterly.

Rosella Shewmaker Lawson, 77, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at St. Joseph East in Lexington.

Born May 1, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Effie Mae Yeast Shewmaker and was the wife of Marvin Lawson.

She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville.  

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Marvin Lynn (Julia) Lawson of Interlachen, FL; three daughters, Deborah (Hubert) Peavler, Darlene (Eddie) Bast and Marlene (Ronnie) McGrath, all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Elva Oldham of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by one brother, Merlin Shewmaker and two sisters, Ethia Bussell and her twin, Marcella Burns.

The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Jason Clark officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mark Eastman, Adam Curtsinger, Matthew McGrath, Michael Ryan, Tommy Barnett, Stephanie McGrath and Patrick Bast.

EVELYN MATTINGLY

Evelyn Young Mattingly, 74, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 26, 1933 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William Elwood Young and Mattie Frances Elliott Votaw and was the wife of J.W. Mattingly.

She was retired from Modine and a member of the Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, Jack Mattingly and Steve Mattingly, both of Harrodsburg;  two sisters, Nancy Yeast and Norma Martin, both of Harrodsburg; four granddaughters and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Young and one brother-in-law, Kenny Martin.

The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Hughes and Bro. Robert Barton officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

OPAL MCQUILLIAM

Opal Louise McQuilliam, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson, KS.

Born Jan. 6, 1923 in Hutchingson, KS, she was the daughter of Ola E. and Minnie A. Taylor Williams and was the widow of Charles Price McQuilliam.

She was a secretary for the First Baptist Church were she was also a member and was a regular volunteer at the Thrift Shop in Lyons, KS.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles T. McQuilliam of Harrodsburg and Michael E. McQuilliam of Larned, KS; five daughters, Karon Randolph of Sebring, FL, Janice Schierling of Inman, KS, Cynthia Koehn of McPherson, KS, Marsha Dennston of Philippi, WV and Louis Allen of Lyons, KS; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith A. Williams and Paul L. Williams and a sister, Geneva Mae Jack.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at the Birzer-Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, KS. Burial was in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson, KS.

Delia Miller, 74, of Salvisa, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

She was born March 10, 1933, in Rockcastle County, daughter of the late John and Mary Jane Gadd Miller.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles (Mary) Miller and Mike (Pauline) Miller, both of Stamping Ground; five daughters, Irene (Henry) Knight, of Salvisa, Millie (Stan) Blackburn, of Grant County, Connie Shyrock, of Harrodsburg, Brenda (Jessie) Lewis, of Stamping Ground, and Loretta (George) Wright, of Georgetown; five brothers; two sisters; 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Walker Miller, a son, Danny Miller, four brothers and four sisters.

Services were held Friday, Feb. 15, at the Harrod Brothers Funeral Home in Stamping Ground, with Rev. Danny Broce officiating.

Burial was in Masonic Cemetery in Stamping Ground.

Casket bearers were Henry Knight, Stan Blackburn, John Holder, Alonzo Miller, Robert Kidwell and Shawn Miller.

Viola Langford Pittman, 74, died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Mack and Bessie Langford and was the widow of James. T. Pittman.

She was a graduate of Bate High School, a member of St. Peter A.M.E. and was retired from Eaton Heaters.

Survivors include: one son, James M. Pittman of Harrodsburg; one sister, Lucille Langford of Danville and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Darnell T. Pittman, two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the St. Peter A.M.E. in Harrodsburg.

ALBERT PREWITT

Albert Prewitt Jr., 57, of 3095 Shakertown Road, Danville, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at his home.

Born December 21, 1950 in Danville, he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Brim and Albert Prewitt Sr.

He was a farmer and worked for Fred Cain and Gary Gilbert. Albert was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Janice Hunt Prewitt; two daughters, Tracy Dean Ziesmer, Danville, and Monica Gayle (Johnathan) Grizzell, Hustonville; a son, Steven Todd (Joanne) Prewitt, Perryville; one sister, Gayle Prewitt, Harrodsburg, one brother Frank (Joyce) Prewitt, Danville; seven grandchildren, Kaitlin and Hannah Ziesmer, Allison, Mya, and Bailey Grizzell; Chloe and Clayton Prewitt; and a step grandson, Tyler Watts.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 22, at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Best, Rev. Johnathan Grizzell, and Rev. Donald Owens. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be B. F. Adams, Will Ziesmer, Gary Gilbert , Ray Price, Jimmy Denny and Robbie Bates.

Walter Rhodus, 94, of Harrodsburg, died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2008.

Born in Madison County, he was the husband of Mary Noland Rhodus.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Wayne (Una) Noland and David (Dawn) Rhodus; one daughter, Sue Etta Caudill; four sisters, Addie Frazier, Nanny Reid, Katherine Weston and Sarah Rowe; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Sassymay Lynn Ann Rice, Infant, died on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville.

She was the daughter of Patrick and Sue Ann Moore Rice.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: three sisters, Shady Jane, Treyci and Ashlee Rice; three brothers, Dillon and Lucus Dearinger and Joshua Lantern; maternal grandparents, Patricia Osbourn and Robert and Nancy Moore; paternal grandfather, David Rice; maternal great grandmother, Kathleen Rucker and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Ada Rice.

Ruth Frances Waldridge, 64, Bardstown, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at the residence of her daughter in Holy Cross.

She was a native of Nelson County, a daughter of the late parents, George Albert and Otha Mae Case Hellard.

Shea homemaker, a former employee of the old Springfield Sewing Factory and a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Rene’ Waldridge.

Survivors include: her husband, Robert Waldridge; two daughters, Yvette Oliver and Gail Nation, both of Holy Cross; a son, Robert Waldridge Jr., New Haven; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Pauline Davenport, Shelbyville, and Brenda Collier, Harrodsburg; and a half-brother, George Hellard, Lawrenceburg.

The funeral was held Thursday, February 14, at the Houghlin Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Anderson County. Brother Claude Waldridge officiated.

Hazel Lee Watts, 95, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Dec. 10, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Lafe and Sally Oldham Harlow and was the widow of Lebus Watts.

She was a retired waitress and cook from Murphy’s Truck Stop and Stone Manor and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Jeanetta (William) Lane of Harrodsburg; three sons, Stanley R. Watts, Earl (Anna) Watts and Ronald D. Watts all of Harrodsburg; ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two step-great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held. Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Burkhead officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Kirkland, James Ashford, Daniel Moore, Jim McMurtrie, Michael Vah and Eugene Warner.

James R. Yeager Sr., 85, of Glendale, AZ, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008.

Born in Mercer County, he was the son of Everett and Margie Yeager and the husband of Mary Lee Yeager. 

He served in the U.S. Army, was an electrician, owned and operated Mt. Zion Electrician and Yeager Electric. He was a 50 year member of Macon 8 Blue Lodge, a member of the Consistory and the Ansar Shrine Temple, a member of the American Legion, an Exalted Ruler of the Maryvale Elks and also the Phoenix West Elks.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Patricia A. Hendren of Miramar, FL, Beverly Jean Ruzich of Big Pine Key, FL and Connie Boden of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Thomas Scott McKee of Ramsey, IL; one brother, Cletis Yeager of Harristown, IL; one sister, Cordelia Huffman of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Glenn Yeager, a sister, Azille Satterly and a son, James R. Yeager Jr.

A memorial service will be held at Phoenix West Elks Lodge in Glendale, AZ on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.

Milton Gale Lake, 61, husband of Katherine Jane Cable Lake, of Mundys Landing Road, Versailles, died unexpectedly February 21, 2008.

He was born June 28, 1946, and was the son of Marsdon and Agnes Taylor Lake of Harrodsburg.

He was a member of the East End Church of Christ and was president of the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association.

Additional survivors include: two children, Missy Lake and Barbie (Sonny) Roberts; three grandchildren, Kayla, Lakin and Madison Roberts; one sister, Linda Lake.

Services were held Tuesday, February 26, at the Betts & West Funeral Home, Nicholasville, with Evangelist Aaron Erhardt. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Powell, Joe Hays, Keith Ricks, Brent Shelton, Max Anderson, James Humphrey, Bill Cobb and Troy Sammons.

Adelia W. Leath, 89, of Winchester, widow of the late Rev. A. Dalton Leath, passed at 3:30 a.m. Sunday February 24, 2008 at the Clark Regional Medical Center.

A native of Mayfield, she was the daughter of the late W.H. and Ethel Wilson Wyman.

She was a retired teacher, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and Virginia Commonwealth University, and a member of First Baptist Church, Winchester.

Survivors include: one son, D. Wilson (Jennie) Leath of Harrodsburg; one granddaughter, Sarah Kathryn Leath of Lexington; one nephew, Dr. James Adams of Mayfield.

She was also preceded in death by a son, William W. Leath, and a daughter Virginia C. Leath.

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday February 26, at the Scobee Funeral Home, Winchester, by Dr. John Owen. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery.

Mary Pauline McGrath, 71, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.  

Born Jan. 20, 1937 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late Paul C. Corman and Mary Drury Corman Claunch.  

She was a retired custodian for Harrodsburg Independent School System and was a charter member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.   

Survivors include: three sons, Ronnie (Marlene) McGrath, Mark (Melissa) McGrath and John McGrath, all of Harrodsburg; one brother, James R. Corman of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Dorothy (Garnett) Collier and Jane Corman Ader, both of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Benjamin Jasper McGrath.

The funeral was held Tuesday Feb. 26, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bobby Logue officiating.  Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Matt McGrath, Stephanie McGrath, Johnny Drury, Gregory Collier, Paul Collier and Todd Collier. 

Honorary pallbearers were Garnett Collier, Johnny Carr, Steven Ader, Erica Gyori, Bruce W. Corman and Jimmy Corman.

MILDRED OAKS

Mildred Oaks, 78, of Lexington Road, Harrodsburg, widow of William S. Oaks, died Wed. at Harrodsburg Healthcare.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

SARAH PHILLIPS

Sarah Lee Pearl Phillips, 74, of 503 Fairway Drive, Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born June 11, 1933 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Howard and Flossie Bera Johnson Yocum.

She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass and a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include:  one daughter, Donna (Donald) T. Russell of Harrodsburg; one sister, Dortha B. Ward of Harrodsburg, Nieces: Lona Y. Reynolds and Vicki Y. Peavler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, February 29, at the Hopewell Baptist Church by John David Lane and Brian Burkhead.  Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
