For the Shakers, Christmas was a day of reconciliation, forgiveness and charity. It was a time for giving and forgiving. This guided tour through Centre Family will explore 19th century Shaker Christmas customs.

Join Shaker Village and the Woodford Hounds fox hunters for their annual Blessing of the Hounds. This traditional event features a blessing of the hounds, riders and the fox and is followed by the first meet of the formal season. Witness this grand event where riders dress in formal hunting attire with foxhounds alongside.

This year, the holidays at Shaker Village will glow like never before. The air will be filled with the smell of freshly baked goodies, the sound of joyous carols and the jingle of Christmas bells. At dusk, the grand buildings along the village road will be illuminated by the twinkling of hundreds of candles. Celebrate the simple gifts of the season with holiday classics, evening candlelight tours, and a visit from a very special guest.

Take a lantern-lit tour of the Centre Family Dwelling as Shaker Christmas customs of donating to the needy, singing, cooking and decorating the tree are brought to life.
Make Your Own Shaker Ornament @ Centre Family Dwelling

Shaker children celebrated by decorating Christmas trees with popcorn strings and paper chains, by exchanging gifts and even visits from Santa! Make ornaments to take home, decorate the tree and sing Christmas songs.
